There’s an old saying: “Ask and you shall receive, seek and you shall find.”
That lesson was cemented in me early in my career at a sales conference, where the instructor said: If you don’t ask for business, it’s not going to come to you. It was a message about intentionality and purposefully closing.
I took it to heart. I constantly look for opportunities to ask for business when I see them. But the coolest thing is how that same principle has overflowed into other areas of my life.
Unless you’re new here, you know that I love music. Playing, writing, and creating, I love it all. But let’s be honest: paying gigs in Nashville are rare unless you’re playing country. Still, I’ve been studying jazz at the Nashville Jazz Workshop, and recently decided to just ask if there were any opportunities to play there to an audience.
At first, nothing happened. But a week or two later, Tennessee Brew Works reached out to schedule some holiday gigs and said the Jazz Workshop had given them my info. Boom! Just like that.
So here’s the reminder I want to give you: Ask and you shall receive. Seek and you shall find.
Put the request out into the world, and it will find its way back to you. But if you keep your desires a secret, they stay hidden, even from yourself.
So I ask you:
What can you put out into the world this week and ask for?
What can you seek to find? This can be about real estate and business, and it can 100% not be about real estate and business. Whatever it is you choose to go after, just make sure it matters to you.
